The Vietnam War was the longest significant conflict in which Australians have been involved in it lasted ten years, from 1962 to 1972, and involved some 50,000 personnel. A small pack of just 30 military advisers grew to include a battalion (DEFINITION-a large body of troops ready for battle, esp. an infantry unit forming part of a brigade typically commanded by a lieutenant colonel), in 1965 and finally, in 1966, a task force. Each of the three groups was involved, but the main role was played by the Army.
